Donate to Habitat's Relief Work in Haiti

Donate Online NOWThe past few weeks Habitat Omaha has received many calls regarding Habitat's efforts in Haiti. Many of you have asked what you can do. While we are not sending volunteers at this time, you can make a donation to Habitat Omaha's Haiti Fund. Your money will be donated to Haiti through our International Tithe Program. Below are some of the details regarding how your contribution will be used.

Recovery Starter Kits
The kits help families make immediate repairs and construct temporary shelter. Among the items in the kit are tarpaulins, wire, rope, pry bar, trowel, gloves, nails, buckets, hacksaw and blades, hammer and saw. They are packaged in a container that can be locked to secure the items and that families can convert for other use later.

Cleanup Assistance & Rehabbing Repairable Homes
To clear the way for home repair and construction, Habitat will assist in the cleanup by mobilizing people to remove debris and salvage materials that can be recycled into new shelter, and then will assist in rehabilitation of homes with repairable damages.

Establishing Habitat Resource Centers
Through Habitat Resource centers, Habitat partners with local businesses, community-based organizations, governments and other non-government organizations to further economic recovery and help families rebuild. The centers are focused on specific local needs, so no one center functions exactly like another.

Building Core Houses
As soon as conditions on the ground realistically allow, Habitat will begin replacing destroyed homes using a core housing model. Core houses are small, disaster-resistant homes that can be quickly built and to which families can make additions over time. We believe thousands of core houses will be needed.

Please join us in praying for Haiti and help us rebuild by sharing your blessings. You will be amazed at how far a $25 or $50 donation will go in a country like Haiti, where Habitat homes can be built for less than $7,000. No donation is too small.

If you know of businesses, churches, agencies or individuals who'd like to donate, please tell them about it now or write to us directly at tmcpherson@habitatomaha.org.
