Action 3 News Story: A Big Welcome Home for Six Families
Omaha, NE - It's a big welcome home and day of celebration for six families. Habitat for Humanity handed over the keys during simultaneous dedications Sunday afternoon.
Rose Kwagi: "She's asking more from God to bless the people who built the house for her to continue to build for others that don't have."
Mary Yasona talks to Action 3 News about Sunday's dedication through an interpreter. She explains the new home is necessary to keep her six children safe.
Rose Kwagi: "Living in an apartment like the one they live in now is not safe. Even though she keeps her kids inside, they sneak and go out and play with other kids."
And Yasona is thankful for the volunteers who donated sweat-equity hours to build the home, volunteers like John Ducey.
John Ducey: "Quite a change from coming from Africa a few years ago to Nebraska and have a brand new home."
But this isn't the only family celebrating a new start. Following the dedication, the Yasona's joined five other families and volunteers at a "Thanks a Million" party.
Rose Kwagi: "God really brought everything together to be done today."
Sunday's event also recognized "Thrivent Financial for Lutherans." The organization has donated more than a million dollars to Habitat for Humanity in the last four years.
